New Items Search

John Houser

I’ve recently brought up a new VUFind 3.1.3 implementation (http://rsdiscover06.hsp.org). In staff testing, we’ve found that the New Items search is not always behaving as expected. It is configured to use Solr in our searches.ini. After you perform a New Items search (which works fine), the system sometimes continues to filter for new items indefinitely. Once this happens, there seems to be no way to turn off the filter, except by manually editing the URL.

To be specific, if I perform a New Items search and then click on our logo to go back to our splash screen, and then perform a blank search, the filter is retained. However, if I perform a new search by keyword, or even perform a blank search from the New Items results, the new items filter is cleared.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Any solution?

Re: New Items Search

Demian Katz

John,

If you turn off your custom theme and use the stock bootstrap3 version, do you see the same problem? I just did a quick test and was unable to reproduce the problem you describe. I’m wondering if it might have something to do with the way the link you’re putting around your logo in your custom template is being generated. If you’re able to reproduce the problem in the stock theme, please give step-by-step instructions on what to click in order to make it happen. If you’re not able to reproduce the problem, please share your logo HTML from your template and I’ll see if I can suggest an alternative to avoid this problem.

Thanks!

- Demian

Re: New Items Search

John Houser

Demian,

I don’t see the same problem with bootstrap3. Here is the logo HTML:

<a role="logo" class="navbar-brand" href="<?=$this->url('home')?>"><img class="logo"

    src="<?=$this->imageLink('Discover-Logo.png')?>" alt="HSP"></a>

Re: New Items Search

Demian Katz

Take a look at your custom search/home.phtml page. It is probably out of sync with the core version. This is the key code:

<div class="well well-lg clearfix" role="search">
<?=$this->context($this)->renderInContext("search/searchbox.phtml", ['ignoreHiddenFilterMemory' => true])?>
</div>

If the home searchbox is not configured to ignore the hidden filter memory, then you'll see this behavior. Most likely your custom template was generated before this behavior was added to the core code. If you haven't already, I'd strongly recommend doing a generalized diff between your custom templates and their core equivalents in case there are any other bug fixes or minor new features that have gotten out of sync.
